EMILY POPHAM GILLINS, violin
Violinist Emily Popham Gillins has been blessed to travel the world as a soloist and chamber musician since her debut at age 11 with the Louisville Orchestra. As a member of Ensemble Connect, she performed in venues ranging from Carnegie Hall to Riker’s Island Prison. Emily has collaborated with artists such as Emmanuel Ax and Rachel Barton Pine, and has played backup strings for Harry Connick Jr., Sting, and Peter Gabriel. As first violinist of the Degas String Quartet, she performed at halls including the Library of Congress, and toured North Carolina doing residency work at universities and public schools. She has been a member of IRIS Orchestra, the Sarasota Opera Orchestra and the New York Chamber Soloists.
Emily is committed to helping the city of New York heal after the catastrophic toll of the Covid-19 pandemic. Since June of 2020 she has been performing at Bellevue Hospital to thank and honor the healthcare workers who sacrificed so much for the benefit of others. As live performing returns, she is hopeful to make a difference in the lives of those who have been impacted by the pandemic and is working hard to that end.
