Daniel Pereira, from Caracas, Venezuela, enjoys a multifaceted and versatile career as a cello teacher, chamber music coach, orchestral performer and chamber musician. Currently he is a cello teacher and chamber music coach at the Cleveland Institute of Music Preparatory Division. Since 2005 he has been a member of the cello section of the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra. He performs regularly with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra in South Carolina and Wheeling Symphony Orchestra in West Virginia. He has also performed with the Pittsburgh Symphony and New World Symphony. From 2006-17, Pereira served as a regular substitute with The Cleveland Orchestra. During that period he was able to work under some of the world’s leading conductors including Franz Welzer-Möst, Herbert Blomstedt, Alan Gilbert, Vladimir Ashkenazy and Stéphane Denève, among others, and travel throughout the United States and Europe.

Before moving to Cleveland, Pereira was a founding member of the Dalí String Quartet as well as a member of The Sturgis String Quartet and Arkansas Symphony. Currently, he is the cellist of the Cleveland-based Verditas String Quartet. He has also served as principal cellist with the National Repertory Orchestra, Philadelphia Virtuosi and co-principal of Red {an orchestra}. Pereira has appeared as a soloist with the National Repertory Orchestra, Hendrix College Orchestra, Emil Friedman Philharmonia and Arcos Juveniles de Caracas.

Pereira has participated in several music festivals including La Jolla SummerFest and Sequoia Chamber Music camp both in California and the Dalí Quartet International Music Festival in Pennsylvania, where he has served as faculty since 2011. Recent chamber music highlights include a performance of Modesta Bor’s Cello Sonata at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, appearances in the Heights Arts chamber music series, frequent chamber music collaborations with members of The Cleveland Orchestra, Cavani and Dalí string quartets and an invitation to perform with Harrisburg Symphony Maestro Stewart Malina in his chamber music series Stuart and Friends.

Pereira is also an avid enthusiast of new music and is currently a member of the new music ensemble Ars Futura. As a member of Ars Futura he has participated in several projects including a homage concert to Pierre Boulez at the Cleveland Institute of Music and a recording project featuring the music of composer Greg D’Alessio.
