John Freeman is a busy freelance trumpeter in the San Francisco Bay area, and has been coming to Memphis to play with the IRIS Orchestra for about 7 years. At home, he is the Principal Trumpet of The San Francisco Chamber Orchestra, The Marin Symphony, The Stockton Symphony and Symphony Napa Valley, and a member of the Oakland Symphony. He is adjunct professor of trumpet at Dominican University, and teaches many private students. Before moving to San Francisco, John was Principal Trumpet of the Charleston Symphony in Charleston, SC. He received a Bachelors and Masters degree from The Cleveland Institute of Music, where he was a student of James Darling and Michael Sachs. When he’s not performing or teaching music, John enjoys cycling, running, roasting his own coffee and spending time with his wife, Robin.
