Monday, get the background on the Chicago blues’ roots in the Delta with an exclusive screening of the 2013 documentary, “Born in Chicago.” The 83-minute film traces the story of how the first-generation Delta blues artists, who had made their way to 1960 Chicago’s gritty ghetto clubs, influenced a new generation of blues among their young, white, middle-class apprentices. It features an all-star cast including B. B. King, Buddy Guy, Bob Dylan, and Corky Siegel (as themselves). Following the viewing and Q&A, Corky will autograph copies of his new CD, “Different Voices.” Just released on April 7, 2017, “Different Voices” was twelve years in the making.

Tickets will be available at the door, or by calling (901) 751-7669.

Classically Blue: Corky Siegel with Musicians from
IRIS Orchestra & Memphis Blues Society

On Tuesday, enjoy dinner, drinks with a full-length Corky Siegel Chamber Blues show featuring Corky, IRIS musicians, blues vocalist, and trumpet. The legendary Chicago blues artist brings his signature blues-classic chamber music to spark your palette for an outstanding week of the blues in Memphis. “Gritty Chicago blues and rarefied classical music might not seem like a match made in heaven – until you’ve heard Corky Siegel bring the two together. . . a crowning achievement.” (Chicago Tribune)

To create chamber blues in Memphis, Corky will shape a performance with the emerging artists of IRIS Orchestra’s IRIS Artist Fellows, IRIS Orchestra concertmaster Marcin Arendt, and native Memphian blues artists. You can catch the resulting magic 7:00-9:00 PM at Lafayette’s Music Room at Overton Square on Tuesday, May 9.
